Lady in waiting

This is my friend Brittany, I met her online via her blog a few years ago.   She isn't blogging anymore and I do miss her blog!  She used to share some of the yummiest recipes that she would make!  We took a class together a few years ago and have stayed in touch.   Funny thing is we live on opposite sides of town but never get the chance to see each other.   She is a photographer in the Clear Lake area so if you are in that area and want her info let me know.  Or simply go HERE to visit her FB page.

So, she is engaged to Calvert and is so ready to be his bride but has been waiting for the US to issue him a visa so he could move here from Jamaica so they can start their forever.  She asked me to join her at the airport on the day he was arriving so I could snap a few photos for her.  UHM, ok.......me?  The girl who isn't nearly as good as you, to snap photos for you?!  In an airport with no natural lighting? UHM, ok.  Giggle  His plane arrived at 5:07 but he didn't walk through those doors until about 9:30pm.  Yep, we waited and waited and so at some point I couldn't resist taking this snapshot of her.  She had been gazing at those doors beyond her.  So, after getting a few of her from the back I asked her to look over and I got this shot.  I love it and I love all the graininess in this too!  Thanks for asking me to take some photos on this special day Brittany!!

My Photography Journey - I like it clean and you?

Hi there!  Well, I hope that those of you that got to know me via my craft and digital art aren't getting tired of my photo sharing.  I promise that I haven't left behind my other hobbies just have been doing a lot of online classes in hopes of learning as much as I can on photography.  I wanted to share with you how my obsession is slowly headed in the right direction.

I love, love, love seeing other photographers photos and at first I was doing the whole are mine as good yet?!  Will I ever get there?  I love how there are so many styles to photographing and editing.  As much as I love when I see photos with extreme color saturation added in it doesn't seem to fit my style but in so many photos I see out there I do love it.  For me I keep going back to a more clean natural look with a little pop.

Here is what I'm talking about, I like to think that my edit doesn't look too over the top.  As you can see the top that Moses is wearing has some really bright colors and didn't need much pop.  What I do still need to work on is learning how to work on the reflection that clothes gives on skin some times.  If you look at his lower right cheek you will see how the red bounces off his face.  Still working on it but I'm getting there.  What say you?  Does it look too over done?

*ignore my poor body cropping! ooops! that is another thing I need to work on!

This little guy is a gem! He loves to smile!  I truly enjoy snapping photos of him and love that his mama  is like minded in that we love the lifestyle photos.  I enjoyed showing up minutes before this sleepy head woke up and in such a good mood I might add!  We hung out and although we changed his outfit a few times we let him play and I simply snapped away.  Being his personal paparazzi these past 6 months has truly been a pleasure!  He is helping me on this photography journey of mine!  How can photos of this cutie not turn out good!  With the exception of a few "too soft" shots I was content with what I came away with.  I am getting SO much better at in camera editing that I don't have to do much tweaking later on.  Who knew I would end up learning about White Balance, Exposure and manual mode only!  Seriously, I feel blessed for the time that I get to snap photos of my friends!   I am looking forward to my long photography learning journey!  So much still left to learn and a forever learning process right!?  Happy Weekend friends!!

Bluebonnet's and Mr. Tough Guy

I had to share this photo I took of Hunter a couple of weekends ago.  I absolutely love how tough he looks yet is standing in a field of pretty Texas Bluebonnets!  He is a total sweetheart so don't let the serious face fool ya!  You can see the photo a little larger if you click on it.

And let me let you in on a little secret......the sky.  Although that is a true sky it is not the sky that was out for our photo session.  That day was overcast and the sky was a very pale almost white sky and so I couldn't resist trying out a sky overly from The CoffeeShop Blog found HERE.

Not sure if it's too much but for now I am digging it, I did another version that isn't as stunning and so maybe that one will look a bit more natural.  For now I'm sharing this edit, what say you? Did it look fake when you first glanced at the photo?

Puppy Love

Hello friends!  Hope you are having a great Spring Break if it's that time of the school year for you and your family!  We don't have kiddos and so for us it is just another week of work, home, sleep, work, home, sleep. Ha!

I just wanted to share a few sweet photos of baby Jake that I took a couple of weekends ago.  His mama is a dear friend of mine and has been so sweet about asking me to take his photos.  This is the same friend whose maternity photos I took last year.  She is an awesome mama to baby Jake!

I am really enjoying learning photography and love to practice as often as I can.  As you can see I am still trying to find my niche in my creative world, the blog design has fallen to the way side.  Sigh.  Some things sound good but just don't end up being what you thought was going to be a fit.

So, onward I go in search of my passion.  For now it's photography.  *wink*

Thanks for stopping by!

TGIF

Just popping in to say TGIF!  I don't know about you but my work weeks have been kicking my butt big time!  I am so ready for the weekend and I'm hoping to spend some time in my studio making something! What I am not sure but something!

And because it's no fun blogging without a photo I'm leaving you with this shot I took of sweet little Zoe a few Friday's ago on a picnic lunch.  I have to say that grabbing a sandwich from the deli then heading to a nearby park for lunch with a friend and her kiddos was a great way to break up my day!

Hope you have a great weekend!

Falling in Love...

...with photography has been something that I have been doing for many years now.  And over the last five years the love affair has blossomed.  This past summer my husband bought me a Canon 5D Mark II and now I can't seem to keep photography from creeping into my daily thoughts.

I try to read as much on photography as I can when I'm home in the evenings while the hubby watches tv.  Having my ipad has made it so easy to read or pin photography articles!  I have been asking friends and family to allow me to photograph them so that I can get as much practice as possible!  Recently my friend Christina asked me to take some maternity photos for her at 6 months and at 9 months and I was so excited!  I was nervous of course, after all I am so not a schooled photographer! But, they were pleased with the photos as was I and for us they were photos that turned out good enough.  I'm sure that a trained eye will pick up on all my mistakes but it's ok, we like them and that is all that counts.  And with that I share the link to the slide show I created for your viewing.

The music playing is from Mindy Gledhill.

Bokeh Baby

Yesterday I sat outside for a bit with my camera to take some photos just for fun.  To see if I was retaining what I learned over at Shoot Fly Shoot and I think I am!  What do I love about this photo?!  The bokeh, I am so in love with the bokeh in this photo!  The bokeh is that unfocused beauty of the photo that then often times shows up as blurry yummy circles.  Call me weird but i love a photo with an unfocused background! What say you?

Click on the photo so you can see it in a larger size to truly appreciate the beauty of all that bokeh, hehe.

Go HERE so you can see what the true definition of Bokeh is.

I used a Canon 5D Mark II with a Canon 50 mm 1.8 lens
